Issac John
Project Associate, Swasti
Issac is a lawyer by qualification and completed his 5-year B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) from the National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata. Working for social initiatives has been close to his heart and Issac spent a significant amount of time in college volunteering for such initiatives. He started his professional career by working as a lawyer in indirect tax and litigation.
After much soul-searching and some time spent volunteering in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region, Issac started working on developmental policy and research. He joined TISS (Mumbai) as a development researcher on the Aspirational Chatra project, a socio-economic analysis of Jharkhand’s Chatra district. Issac was among the team leaders for the project’s significant field work, besides authoring a chapter in the project report, and co-editing all of it.
Issac is passionate about working on enabling and improving the quality of access to fundamental social goods, especially agricultural livelihoods, rural health, and education. He hopes to work on the analysis and design of welfare interventions that can facilitate the same. In the long term, Issac also hopes to work on welfare mechanisms that can pay for itself, i.e., through the public savings accumulated by the improvement of socio-economic metrics.
Issac is an avid trekker, and enjoys cooking Indian and continental cuisines. He is an also enthusiastic numismatist, and likes playing and following football.
