YLT Host Application

SCROLL DOWN

YLT Host Application

The Young Leaders in Tech Policy Fellowship is an unparalleled opportunity for organizations to foster the next generation of tech policy thought leaders in India.

This fellowship will place young professionals with an engineering background in organizations that advance the research and discourse on technology policy in the country. These organisations will serve as 'hosts’ for the fellows for a period of two years.

Fellows work with hosts as full-time team members

Fellows will support the host organisation’s core research, implementation, and advocacy work. Fellows will leverage their eclectic experiences, technology skills, and backgrounds to bring a fresh perspective to research, policy briefs, analysis and recommendations, and other related outputs.  At the same time, they will get an opportunity to develop proficiency in tech policy and transform into subject matter experts.

A unique partnership

The engagement is an opportunity for the hosts to generate broader awareness on the crucial work done by the organisations, especially among technologists, thereby building a talent pipeline for the future. Hosts will support the fellow(s) placed in their organization by providing a comprehensive work plan, a stimulating work environment, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.

A typical YLT Fellow:

The YLT fellowship conducts an elaborate selection procedure for all applicants comprising written, behavioral, and technical interviews to ensure an optimum skill and competency fit between the fellows and the hosts. In line, a typical YLT fellow is an Indian national with a background in engineering. Fellows are high performing individuals with strong analytical and research skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Application Process and EoI

YLT host selection is a two-stage process.

  1. All interested organisations are requested to fill an expression of interest form (EoI). The EoI asks brief details about the organisation, the need for a YLT fellow, and the workstreams/ projects that the organisation intends to assign to the fellow.

  2. Within 3-4 weeks of filling the form, the YLT team will communicate the status of your application. Shortlisted organizations will be invited for a virtual discussion to understand the proposed project and engagement for the YLT Fellow.

This fellowship is a fantastic opportunity for Fellows to come on board and work with us at India Observatory in democratizing information and technology. We very much valued the talent that the call attracted as much the rigorous recruitment process and the well-rounded interviews. We found the candidate that we were looking for - a sound combination of heart, head, and hands. It is an unparalleled opportunity for her and us to contribute to the shaping of tech policy through the eyes of rural people and the other forms of life.

FAQs

FAQs

How long is the engagement?

The fellows are placed with the hosts for a period of 24 months. During this time, fellows work as full-time team members working on projects/ workstreams as decided between them and the hosts.

Fellows, however, have the option to discontinue the fellowship or their engagement with a host after one year. This decision is taken mutually between YLT, the host, and the fellow.

Are fellows expected to work on projects with YLT during this time?

No. YLT fellows work with host organisations full-time. YLT management curates training sessions and networking events for fellows a few times every month which they are expected to attend. This usually does not interfere with their work.

Apart from this, YLT also incurs expenses to let fellows attend an international tech policy conference once each year for which they may need time off. This time is considered to be a part of their work and not a vacation.

Can an organisation re-apply to be a host?

Absolutely! Past applicants are encouraged to apply again. They can apply either with their old application form itself or submit a new application form, depending on changes in their projects and workstreams.

What is the leave/ vacation policy for YLT fellows?

YLT fellows work as full-time team members in their host organisations and follow the vacation/ leave policy of their hosts.

Who can I speak with to retrieve my previous application form?
