This fellowship will place young professionals with an engineering background in organizations that advance the research and discourse on technology policy in the country. These organisations will serve as 'hosts’ for the fellows for a period of two years.
Fellows work with hosts as full-time team members
Fellows will support the host organisation’s core research, implementation, and advocacy work. Fellows will leverage their eclectic experiences, technology skills, and backgrounds to bring a fresh perspective to research, policy briefs, analysis and recommendations, and other related outputs. At the same time, they will get an opportunity to develop proficiency in tech policy and transform into subject matter experts.
A unique partnership
The engagement is an opportunity for the hosts to generate broader awareness on the crucial work done by the organisations, especially among technologists, thereby building a talent pipeline for the future. Hosts will support the fellow(s) placed in their organization by providing a comprehensive work plan, a stimulating work environment, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
Two-year fellowship.
Annual stipend of Rs. 12.5L, of which 25% is borne by the host organizations
Fully sponsored participation in an international technology policy conference each year.
The YLT fellowship conducts an elaborate selection procedure for all applicants comprising written, behavioral, and technical interviews to ensure an optimum skill and competency fit between the fellows and the hosts. In line, a typical YLT fellow is an Indian national with a background in engineering. Fellows are high performing individuals with strong analytical and research skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills.

“This fellowship is a fantastic opportunity for Fellows to come on board and work with us at India Observatory in democratizing information and technology. We very much valued the talent that the call attracted as much the rigorous recruitment process and the well-rounded interviews. We found the candidate that we were looking for - a sound combination of heart, head, and hands. It is an unparalleled opportunity for her and us to contribute to the shaping of tech policy through the eyes of rural people and the other forms of life. ”
The fellows are placed with the hosts for a period of 24 months. During this time, fellows work as full-time team members working on projects/ workstreams as decided between them and the hosts.
Fellows, however, have the option to discontinue the fellowship or their engagement with a host after one year. This decision is taken mutually between YLT, the host, and the fellow.
No. YLT fellows work with host organisations full-time. YLT management curates training sessions and networking events for fellows a few times every month which they are expected to attend. This usually does not interfere with their work.
Apart from this, YLT also incurs expenses to let fellows attend an international tech policy conference once each year for which they may need time off. This time is considered to be a part of their work and not a vacation.
Absolutely! Past applicants are encouraged to apply again. They can apply either with their old application form itself or submit a new application form, depending on changes in their projects and workstreams.
YLT fellows work as full-time team members in their host organisations and follow the vacation/ leave policy of their hosts.
